This is one of several reasons some use as substantiation to join or justify being in a secret society/greek-letter organization. While bishops and pastors are in indeed supposed to be shepherds of God’s flock by teaching, guiding, and caring for The Body of Christ, church leaders are people and they can and do fall short. In addition, not all leaders are Biblically sound or are in place by God simply because they have a title or a large following; we know this by the warnings God has given us in Scriptures such as, 2 Peter 3:17-18, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Acts 20:30, Matthew 24:24, Jeremiah 14:14 and 23:16.
It is completely unwise to pattern one’s life after what another man or woman is doing. Someone being gifted/talented, famous, a great orator, preacher/pastor does not make everything they do truly of God/Yahweh. In psychology the term “bandwagon effect” denotes people doing things primarily because other people are doing it, regardless of their own beliefs, which they often ignore or override. This shouldn’t be done as a Christian; we are to be set apart and led by God (Romans 12:2).
Our standard is Jesus Christ and His Word no matter what others are doing. The Holy Spirit leads us to truth (John 16:13) and we must be careful to test things by God’s Word (1 John 4:1-6). In the case of secret societies/BGLOs/GLOs, etc., no matter who is in them, these things are not compatible with being a true follower of Jesus Christ. We implore all to take time and sincerely seek The Lord and His Word so you too can discern God’s Truth rather than man’s.
